Need
(as a noun) a situation when something is necessary or must be done.
i) to sataisfy/ meet/fulfil a need
ii) need for something
Example:
1. There is an urgent need for qualified nurses.
2. They identified a need for further training.
3. There is no need to cry.
4. There is no need for you to get up early tomorrow.
5. I had no need to open the letter- I knew what it would say.
6. We will contact you again if the need arises.
7. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
8. Call me any time, if any need is required.
Need
(as a verb) to require something/ somebody because they are essential or very important, not just because you would like to have them.
Examples:
1. Do you need any help?
2. It's here if you need it.
3. Don't go - I might need you.
4. They badly needed a cheque.
5. We desperately need hard facts on this disease.
6. Food aid is urgently needed.
7. Needs more time to recover.
8. I don't need your comment, thank you.

Need
(as a Modal Verb) used to state that something is/was not necessary or that only very little is/was necessary; used to ask if something is/was necessary.
Examples:
1. You need not bother asking Sara- I know he's too busy.
2. I need hardly tell you that the work is dangerous.
3. If she wants anything, she need only ask.
