(Absolute
& Universal Truth, Scientific knowledge, Proverbs, Facts) Present Tense is
used, for example:
1. If
one is healthy nothing is lost.
2. If
gold gets rusted what can iron do.
3. Union
is strength.
4. If
we freeze something, it does not decay.
First
Conditional Sentence
(Real condition and its likely result)
Present Indefinite is used + will/shall
+ 1st Verb
For Examples:
1. If
you work hard, you will succeed. or
2. You
will succeed if you work hard.
3. You
can pass the exam if you work hard.
4. If
he comes, we shall play the match.
Second Conditional
Sentence
(Hypothetical
condition but possible)
Past Indefinite
is used with would + bare infinitive
For
Examples:
5. If
you worked hard, you would succeed.
6. You
would succeed if you worked hard.
7. If
he came, we would play the match.
Third Conditional
Sentence
(Hypothetical
condition but impossible)
Past Perfect
is used with would/could/should + have + Past Participle (irreversible condition)
For
Examples:

you had worked hard, you would have succeeded.
9. You
would have succeeded if you had worked hard.

If he had
come, we would have played the match.

If I were
rich, I would have bought another house.
12.
If I had
taken the test, I could have passed it.
